Hoyo
Judío
One must ascend beyond 700 meters to truly grasp the essence of this estate. Hoyo Judío is accessible only via the ancient road known to the people of Quel as the Carretera de las Viñas (the Vineyard Road), which winds its way toward the village of Villarroya. This is a historic viticultural landscape—a heritage of vines that Gabriel Pérez has reclaimed with the precision of an alchemist.
His work here is a relentless quest for the prime soils, ideal exposures, and unique micro-environments necessary to distill the most beautiful attributes from every variety. At this altitude, the vineyard ceases to be mere agriculture and becomes a refined expression of high-elevation terroir.
The legacy of a
watery past
The Tempranillo vines here are framed by ridges and the deep furrows of runoff channels, carved by the water that plunges down during unexpected summer storms. The sandy soil is peppered with river stones and boulders—a legacy of a historic fluvial past that characterizes the complex soil systems and conglomerates of this mountainous zone in Rioja Oriental. This unique geological foundation provides the ideal attributes for crafting wines with a true vocation for longevity.
The air here is a constant presence, serving as a year-round guarantee of phytosanitary health. This is bolstered by the spectacular topography of Hoyo Judío, a terroir defined by North-South slopes that facilitate intense, providential air currents. These winds are the secret to achieving noble, pristine berries—concentrated, healthy, and perfectly balanced.
